Was it a wireless connection ? If so, then some 'thing' may have taken
up residence on your
system. Has the system been scanned for unwanted 'visitors' with an
updated antivirus program since then ?

Since this is September 25th, why don't you see if there is a System
Restore Point created just before the 14th, when this odd behavior
started occurring and utilize that ?
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
