play mp3 on Hoary H'hog (Ubuntu 5.04)
I have an older install (5.04) of Ubuntu on a 800MHz PIII. (I'm on
slooow dialup so don't wish to upgrade at this time.)
I have installed the latest Firefox, and after a google search under-
stand why Firefox (and Totem) cannot play mp3s.
One suggestion I saw was to d/l and install a particular *.so file in
a directory alongside lots of other *.so files but this brought no joy.
(The file came from a commercial site and was named something like
*fluendomp3*.so)
I can't use Ubuntu's auto install feature because any package it
looks for is (of course) no longer to be found in the repository.
Any suggestions for installing something (less than 10 MBytes) that will
allow Firefox and Totem to play both mp3s and midis?
