Well I was actually asking a question, you seemed to of missed that bit.
With you mentioning it opened a window saying that 3D rendering had failed
and that it was falling back to 2D rendering.

If the display was still stuck in showing the 3D view and had failed to
redraw the board, then of course your pieces wouldn't respond. This would
probably be caused by a video driver being faulty, and sometimes it would
take a reboot to clear the image from the video card's memory.

If it was in 2D mode it would be useful to know if it responding to any
mouse input. Normally a square box would follow the mouse around the board.
Does this work? Can you actually click on the pieces and have the available
moves show up.

Without know exactly what is going on, and what parts work and don't work,
any advice would be stabs in the dark.
