Re: Upcoming Server Hardware upgrades

Lately, I have been finding that TechTalkz is taking a while to load. Sometimes I have to keep re-loading the page and after several attempts, it finally connects.

Also, in the General Discussions forum, I clicked on "How to post Videos" and this is what I saw (see below attachment).

Two days ago there was a network maintenance in our data center. This might be related to that. Are you experiencing this today?

Fixed. It's a bug in the current system, all threads with the word videos in it will have this problem.

Re: Upcoming Server Hardware upgrades

Also Google reports indicate that the page load times improved after the Server upgrade.

Yes, it is still slow loading up different things. I don't have this problem on any other website (just wanted to mention that).

That's good to know....

However, there are times that I am also experiencing the same loading speed for the forum like comptronic... But as of the time of writing this reply, all is good...

If I happen to experience the problem again, I'll try to see if I can trace the problem... I am thinking that its just a problem with my ISP...

The v4.0.0 was released early this year but we were holding the upgrade till the product become stable. Currently it's in v4.0.2 and majority of critical bugs are fixed. Also most of the Add-on products we use are already supporting this new vBulletin version. So we'll have the upgrade very soon.

Now this new version of the forum software includes a portal system and is considerably resource intensive. To cope with the future demands we've decided to upgrade a few critical hardware components of our already powerful server. The changes will be:

RAM : 8GB High performance Server Class RAM
CPU : 2 * Intel Quad Core Xeon 5410 - 2.33GHz (Harpertown) - 2 x 12MB cache
Connectivity: 100 Mbps unlimited

We are still discussing the upgrade schedule with the techs. Expected downtime is 30 minutes.

I'll update this thread with more details soon.

Yep, it does. The ads are contributing significantly to the monthly costs; but it was much easier when I had a job. It looks like I should try to get a job as soon as my MSc course completed in this Sept.

What?, isn't your bandwidth unlimited or something, and what ISP provides that sort of speed?, i know virgin are offering 50MB/s, but they throttle there connection speeds, so it will be slower that 50MB/s.
