Nah, a harddrive isn't that slow. You would get a speed reduction by copying many files at high speed (>30MB/s) or many small files, but surely not <10MB/s (unless it's a bunch of small files, they tend to take a while).

Nah, a harddrive isn't that slow. You would get a speed reduction by copying many files at high speed (>30MB/s) or many small files, but surely not <10MB/s (unless it's a bunch of small files, they tend to take a while).
Or maybe it's an old motherboard, and the bus is bottle-necking the CPU and HDD's speed. Or maybe even the RAM.

I know, it shouldn't have a problem with the <7MB/s I'm getting. May be it's just tired of all the reads and writes it had to endure over the years. Anyway, I'm planning to buy a desktop soon with an SSD system drive.

Motherboard, that's gotta be it. Transferring stuff from one high speed drive to another (when neither is the system drive) maxes out at 60-70MB/s (500Mb/s) and my drives are all SATAII/III. Stupid useless cheapskate ASRock.
