M-F iPod extension cable?
Does anyone make a male-to-female 30-pin extension cable,
with an iPod 30-pin connector at each end; male at one end and female at the other? Anything from 10 cm to 2 m would be great. |

Apparently not. You can get a custom job here: http://www.cablejive.com/extendercable.html but it's expensive and doesn't support all functions. -- Jeremy Nixon | address in header is valid (formerly jeremy@exit109.com) |

Wouldn't an extension USB cable do the same thing, and likely be cheaper?
I've seen them up to 6 feet/2 meters. -- Nick Cassimatis He who laughs last has a good backup! Re: M-F iPod extension cable?
No, it's missing most of the pins. USB cables
only have four conductors, and don't include some of the ones I need. Re: M-F iPod extension cable?
I guess I don't understand what you're trying to use it for. From the PC
side, any USB cable has only 4 conductors - the cable synching my iPod right now is like that. Somewhere along the line, that sync cable switches the 4 up to the 30. In fact, since I'm going through a USB hub as it is, I'm already extending the USB side of the cable. I would think a USB M-F cable would do just fine for what you need. But then there may be more to your question than I understand, but if I wanted to move my dock 2 meters away, I'd just extend the USB side, which is a commodity item, rather than the iPod side, which would have to be an Apple licensed product, carrying that extra cost. -- Nick Cassimatis He who laughs last has a good backup! True. > From the PC side, any USB cable has only 4 conductors - The 30-pin connector has many other functions. Audio and video out, audio in, and more. I want to use some of the pins that are not included in the USB, and I don't think I even need all four of the USB connections. I don't need to provide power to the iPod, for instance. > I would think a USB M-F cable would do just fine for what you need. It's not. I need several pins that are not part of the USB. The cable cited by Jeremy Nixon had some of them, but still not what I need. |

L/R audio line in, L/R audio line out, video (composite and Y/C), serial control T/R, power, and Firewire. If "ba" needs to use *any* of those signals, a USB extention doesn't do the job. |

The iPod is capable of many more functions than are available simply through the USB port. |
