Deleting songs from iPod.
I just bought my first iPod. It's 20 GB and I have 24 GB of music. When I
first plugged it into my computer it automatically started downloading all my songs up to 18.55 GB. Can I delete ALL the songs off of my iPod, and then download what songs I want on there manually? Thanks! G@ry |

Yes; the easiest way to do this is to tell it to sync only "Selected playlists", instead of "All songs and playlists", in the Music tab under the iPod in iTunes. Then choose playlists you want to sync and it'll take care of it. (You don't have to do anything to delete what's already on there; it will handle that itself too.) -- Jeremy Nixon | address in header is valid (formerly jeremy@exit109.com) |

This is why I call I-Tunes "USER VICIOUS". Or if that is too strong for you, then it is at the very least incredibly arrogant. It just assumes that it knows what you want and proceeds to do it without asking (or frequently even telling) you what it is doing. And with no recourse to stop it. I removed I-Tunes from my computer less than 60 minutes after installing it. I won't tolerate such misbehaving software. |

Apple surely has some strong opinions how things should work. > It just assumes that it knows what you want and proceeds > to do it without asking (or frequently even telling) you what it > is doing. And with no recourse to stop it. It does what you have configured it to do, nothing else. Configure it to sync only certain playlists or songs and it will do exactly that. Yeah, the default is to sync everything, but if the default would be to sync nothing, there would be people complaining about that, too. > I removed I-Tunes from my computer less than 60 minutes after > installing it. I won't tolerate such misbehaving software. iTunes surely has its bugs and ugly corners, but *this* works just fine, I think. I like it a lot. ah but can it update the firmware on an ipod. I also like the wording General Goodness............make a good military commanders name that. I use itunes for my ipods (nano and touch) and find it easy to use, it does what I want and does not look like a typical windows environment..........which makes a change. Oh yes and its free. |

Now why would I want to do that? It appears to be working just fine. I don't believe in "updating" something just because the vendor wants me to. Its my gadget, not theirs. If it is broken, I will fix it. Else I leave it run as-is. I have a computer at home that hasn't been "updated" for over 8 years. It still works just fine for the applications I use. I guess I don't make a very good Apple sheep customer. I'm quite comfortable with that. |
