Any damage to the iPod connector should be clearly visible. If it doesn't notice the iPod plugging in it wouldn't notice it in disk mode, so I guess you are down to it being the lead or connector. > Thanks guys for you help Welcome. Could you do your quoting properly though - you keep posting your answer before the question which makes it very hard to read your posts. -- Woody |

Sorry about top posting, some groups like top posting, some like bottom and some like you to remove the full previous comments. There doesn't seem to be any set standard on the usenet groups. Will keep you posted when the new cable arrives - Thanks |

Yes - that would seem odd if everything worked on his but doesn't work on yours, if everything is as it was. I guess that means that something isn't right. Is there any option for trying it on a different machine? Not necessarily the original machine but anything that might have iTunes on it? That would rule out the lead/ipod/connector issue and leave you with a software issue if it worked. > Sorry about top posting, some groups like top posting, some like > bottom and some like you to remove the full previous comments. Strange! > There doesn't seem to be any set standard on the usenet groups. Yes there is, this is it, replying to the questions or statements like a conversation which was always the way on news (as it is just easier for people to make sense of). Some other company support groups may want something different, but they would I assume say somewhere! > Will keep you posted when the new cable arrives - Thanks Yes, let us know - or if you manage to try it on another machine -- Woody |

I went to argos and bought a dock it only cost me £9.99 plugged it in (its usb) and it came up with the ipod - interesting point for anyone trying the same - itunes would NOT let me restore as it asked for firewire to restore, couldnt of course cause - as yep it didnt recognise. Hey but because of advise here had downloaded the stand alone updater. used the updater and restored the ipod which renamed it to my name and format macintosh. reconnected itunes and it works a dream. must have been the firewire cable - will let the previous owner know - maybe thats why i got it ultra cheap!!!! Thanks again guys, best wishes. > > There doesn't seem to be any set standard on the usenet groups. > > Yes there is, this is it, replying to the questions or statements like a > conversation which was always the way on news (as it is just easier for > people to make sense of).
