Re: From PCI to PCI-E? + videocard questions

I've got an ATI Radeon x1650 Pro pci-e graphics card with 512 ddr2 ram. I'm quite happy with it, except for the drivers. ATI makes really crappy drivers, imo. I wouldn't get a graphics card with anything less than 512 memory.

If I update to the latest ati drivers & when I go play some of my games, I get a "your system does not support this resolution" I've got a 19" widescreen with a max resolution of 1440x900. So I think the newer ati drivers are no good.

I never heard of it, thanks. I'll still stick to my catalyst 6.12 drivers. They're stable & work well for me.

Re: From PCI to PCI-E? + videocard questions

RivaTuner is not a graphics driver. it helps in controlling various features of your card via the graphics drivers. it's mainly a tuning app.

Heres the latest XP Pro or Home Catalyst 8.10 drivers link and the 8.10 hotfix in case anything goes wrong with the 8.10 driver:

These are the parts that are available on places I can get to:

Mobo:
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4
Gfx card: VGA-Card nVidia 8400GS 512MB PCI-E DVI TV-out HDTV HDCP
RAM:
Kingston HyperX 1 GB DIMM 240-pin DDR2
Processor:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0 GHz Socket AM2 2000 MHz Bus in a box

Does all of these fit together? What needs changing?
Answer anyone, plz? I'd like to know if all these are just dandy or if something is compleately wacky about this expencive jigsaw puzzle.

Re: From PCI to PCI-E? + videocard questions

Those parts are alright....but instead of a 8400GS I'd rather a 8500GT or higher if your budget is tight. And why not get the latest Intel instead, they cost less nowadays and more performance then AMD. And you said that your from Sweden where you can't get much pc parts. LOL...Sweden is like the country home of overclocking (Anybody know Crotale>? Worlds most famous overclocker and record breaker along with US Fugger?) You should be able to get more computer parts that you want then me in Australia!
