Smile WinTV HVR 1600 problem

I recently purchased & installed a WinTv HVR 1600. I got it working for watching tv. When it comes to recording, I've got a problem. I can't seem to record in mpeg1 format. I keep getting an error. I've tried reinstalling everything, as well as audio & video codecs. I've adjusted my virtual memory size too. I still get this error. I just don't know what else to do with it. Attached is a screenshot of this error.

When I record in mpeg2 format, it works fine. The only problem with that, is when I convert it to avi, it gets a lot of lines & the quality doesn't look very good.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: WinTV HVR 1600 problem

Make sure your using the latest driver package found here and not the disc that came with the HVR.

Support for WinTV-HVR-1600

This is taken from the FAQ...maybe you cant do MPEG1?

"What type of recordings can I make with the WinTV-HVR-1600?

With the WinTV-HVR-1600, you can record from an analog cable TV source (or through the S-Video or composite video inputs) in an MPEG2 format using the built on hardware encoder.

You can also record from either ATSC digital TV or clear QAM (on some models) in MPEG-2, but these recordings are typically high definition MPEG-2 recordings, but may also be standard definition depending on the broadcaster.

Note: Recordings made from high definition ATSC are not compliant for DVD burning. DVD burning can currently only be used from standard definition recordings."
