790i Mobo not seeing GTX 260

I'm having a problem getting my EVGA GTX 260 to work in my XFX 790i Ultra SLI mother board. It appears that the mother board just doesn't know that the card is installed when ever I boot up. The card powers up, fan spins up, but there is no display to the monitor (no bios or anything). When it goes through the post test instead of getting the normal single short beep, it does one long beep (about 1.5-2 seconds).

So far I've tried the card in different slots, but still have the same problem.

I tried the card in a friends computer with a different motherboard (don't remember the make) and the card worked fine.

I currently have a PNY GeForce 9400GT running in the primary PCIe x16 slot, and in the other 2 PCIe slots and its worked every time. So the PCIe slots seem to be working fine.

I tried putting the 260 in the primary slot and the 9400 in second slot and got a display, but it stoped before it had time to boot up and told me that the system detected a display device in either the second or third slot, and that it should be moved to the primary.

The last thing I've tried is swaping power supplies. And again, still have the same problem.

I've tried reseating the card, making sure its all the way in the slot. I've tried different 6 pin connectors from both power supplies.

I'm just at a loss as to what to try next besides a new mother board, but the 9400 works just fine in it, so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

I've called both the EVGA and XFX support lines and they were both stumped as to what the problem could be, EVGA even offered to send a replacement card free of charge, but again the 260 looked like it was running fine in another machine.

Anyone have any idea of what could be causing this problem?

Lets get to the point....Have you tried the system with a bigger and better quality psu?

A rough start as to how much you need is a 450Watt decent quality psu for any system with a overclocked 3.2GHZ C2Q Q6600, 2GB DDR2 800 Ram, hard drives in RAID and a XFX GTX260.

Re: 790i Mobo not seeing GTX 260

I'm using an 800w Power supply which is more then enough power for my rig, I also tried a 620w power supply when I was suspecting that the 800w was going bad.

Re: 790i Mobo not seeing GTX 260

Any updates on your issue?

I am having the same problem with my GTX 260 on a EVGA nForce 750i SLI Motherboard.

I have a 650W power supply. I have tested my PCIE slot to be working fine with another card.

What was the power supply of your friend's computer?

I'd have to ask him tomarrow. Have you tried your card in a different machine just to make sure your issue isn't just a bad card?

Re: 790i Mobo not seeing GTX 260

I have not tested it in another machine. But the card is new, and it is exhibiting the same behavior as yours ... the 2 second beep when machine is powered up.

Please also try to get the mobo, cpu and ram details of your friends.

You using generic or branded psus. If it still doesn';t work, RMA would probably be the only solution.

Re: 790i Mobo not seeing GTX 260

Its a Silverstone Olympian PSU.

I actually recieved this 260 as an RMA when my 9800GX2 died on me. Plus I've already tested the card on a different motherboard and it worked just fine.

Re: 790i Mobo not seeing GTX 260

OK heres, after a bit more thought, I've lacked something that I shouldn't have,

1st. Update your BIOS to a later revision that will most likely fix your problem

(Note: You can get it from xfxforce.com but you'll need an account that you can register for free to get support for your product)

2nd: Have you succuessfully checked the power connections to the graphics card? Is it running on the required amps the GTX260 requires? and are your PCI Exp Power connectors locked in place properly?

3rd: If you have not done the above, please do so, need any more help? Post back.

Re: 790i Mobo not seeing GTX 260

I havn't updated the bios yet, I'm a bit uneasy about doing something like that. I don't want to ***** up and put my board out of commission for good. Tho thats about the last thing I have left to try.

As for the power connectors, they are all fine and seated firmly.
