Symetrical Lines & Rectangular Patterns On Screen

Lines with imbedded dashes & rectangular blocks of green or pink, come and go on my screen. When I open a new program or screen, with or without a browser (I use both Mozilla and Explorer), or even on my desktop. One screen will be clean, and the next is not. I need help. I am using a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE graphics card. I do not even know if this is a card issue, software issue or a viral thing. I would appreciate any assistance in first identifying this and any suggestions on addressing the issue. I have attached a screen shot with an example. Here the problem shows up as blocks of horizontal pink or green lines with imbedded daahes, all over the entire screen. Thanx!

Install Speedfan and monitor the graphics card temperature. Does it cross 100C ? have you overclocked the card ? Which version of forceware driver are you using ? Download latest version of Forceware driver 185.85.

Steps to install new driver :
1. Download and install Driver Sweeper.
2. Uninstall old driver from Device Manager.
3. Reboot in Safe Mode, run Driver Sweeper, select NVidia - Display and click the Clean button.
4. Reboot in normal mode and install latest driver but running the setup file.

if that still doesn't resolve the problem, try the graphics card on another system that has no display problems and check if the problem persists.

Re: Symetrical Lines & Rectangular Patterns On Screen

Hello Bakuryu, Thank you for your suggestions. I installed speedfan, and the graphics card temp runs right at 55C. I have never personally clocked the card. The current settings are: Core Clock 450MHz, Memory Clock 648MHz (1296 data rate). I assume these are default settings?? The Driver Version is 182.50 as I had went to NVIDIA's website in an attempt to resolve the issue myself, and updated the driver-without uninstalling the former driver, as I did not know how to do that. I have followed your instructions exactly and the problem still exists excepting that I have not installed the card in another known working system. I did however substitute a different monitor and cable several days ago to eliminate those variables. No change. Do you have any other thoughts short of putting this card in a known working system?? And do you feel that this is in fact, most likely a graphics card issue?? The only other observation I have to add, is that the patterns often give me the impression of it being a frequency thing as the patterns although chaotic, seem to have a symmetrical character to them. Thanks again!

Reduce the memory clock to 533MHz and check.

Re: Symetrical Lines & Rectangular Patterns On Screen

Hello Bakuryu, I was able to reset the memory clock to 533MHz, no change. Of course the device manager says it's working fine. Any other thoughts?? Thanks.

Re: Symetrical Lines & Rectangular Patterns On Screen

it looks like an issue with the graphics card only. Check the graphics card in another system or bring another graphics card and test.

Re: Symetrical Lines & Rectangular Patterns On Screen

Hello Bakuryu, I thank you for your time and effort. I reset several times in an effort to find a good clocking to no avail. When I disable the card, or even remove it and tap directly onto the motherboard, the problem is not present, but whatever Dell is using for graphics (on the motherboard) would not identify itself, was "this device is not working properly" and being unidentifyable, I could not update or install a driver, so everything was seriously dragging. I guess I will need to step up to the plate for a new graphics card. One more question please. Every time I go to full screen for a video, it automatically goes back to the original screen after several minutes. Is that a malfunction, or would that be a limitation of the card? I ask so I may choose a card that will meet my needs. I do not play video games, I do however like to view videos in full screen mode, and appreciate a good resolution/quality during viewing. Do you have any suggestions regarding minimal specs I should be looking for, while being economical? I also intend to run an s-video cable to my picture tube type TV. I found the following video card, and would like your opinion as to it meeting my needs. EVGA GeForce 7200 GS 512MB DDR2 64-bit PCI-E DirectX 9.0 Video Card - 512-P2-N430-LR
I have a Dell, 2.6GHz dual core processor with 1gig of RAM. Peace & thank you!

Re: Symetrical Lines & Rectangular Patterns On Screen

I think that might be a problem with conflicting driver. What you need to do is follow the same instructions :
Quote:
2. Uninstall old driver from Device Manager.
3. Reboot in Safe Mode, run Driver Sweeper, select NVidia - Display and click the Clean button.
4. Reboot in normal mode and install latest driver but running the setup file.
After reboot, if the integrated display is NVidia, you can install the latest driver already downloaded, otherwise if it's ATi install the latest Catalyst driver.

For graphics card, since you want a cheap one you can select GeForce 9500GT, advantage with any 9 series card is that -- if you use Media player Home Cinema it can accelerate HD movies over GPU : Accelerate x.264 1080p movies over the GPU Guide
