I have been searching the internet for days trying to find anyone who has had this problem and finally landed here.
My LCD TV has developed this problem where after warming up, has faint, scrolling lines, of what looks like static or interference moving across the screen in a diagonal/vertical pattern. The set was working fine and I didn't make any changes to my set up or environment. I have left the set unplugged overnight, tried different sources, removed any devices that could cause interference, new outlet, new power cord, new VGA cable (static effect appears on any input/source), opened TV up and dusted, checked for blown capacitors and loose wiring, but didn't see anything. I hooked up my friends LCD TV to my PC to make sure it wasnt my video card and it was fine. If I turn the set off for 20 minutes or so and turn it back on I don't see the static, but after it warms up they start to appear. Faintly at first and then more pronounced the longer I leave the set on. Also they show up very pronounced on certain colors and not at all on say black or white. I have included pictures, although they don't really show them moving (obviously.) Last edited by XImpalerX; 11-06-2009 at 02:11 AM.. |

Re: snowy static Westinghouse LTV-32w6
two more pics... I would also like to say that my overall desktop and application appearance is still fine, the picture is still good, but i have that wavy, snowy pixel effect going on...
ignore the black curvy lines, that is from taking the picture too close up or something. If you just look at the thumbnails you can see the lines better. Last edited by XImpalerX; 11-06-2009 at 02:39 AM.. |

Re: snowy static Westinghouse LTV-32w6
this looks like a hardware issue with the screen of the TV. it can be that the screen is getting overheated and there's some internal problems that's apparently not visible to naked eye. If it's within warranty, get it replaced.
Edit - when you attached you friends lcd, were you using the same power cable and video cable to connect that your lcd uses ? Also are you connecting via a VGA port or DVI port or hd port ?

Re: snowy static Westinghouse LTV-32w6
I did not use the same power cord, as hers is a 3 prong and mine is only 2, but i did use the same VGA cable. I have already swapped VGA cables and power cords though and it still did the same thing.
Unfortunately its not under warranty anymore ![]() I am connecting via VGA, but i tried HDMI and i still had the problem, actually with the LCD not hooked up to any source and just browsing the menu i have the problem, so its deff the set. Last edited by XImpalerX; 12-06-2009 at 05:43 AM.. |

Re: snowy static Westinghouse LTV-32w6
That looks similar to the old Ghost effect image in the old Plasmas that came out couple years ago. To remedy the situation up a bit I think the problem is caused either by, too much heat, make sure the LCD tv isn't right under the sun's rays, this can do internal damage as well as out. Also make sure you don't have things that emits static like woollen jumpers or electronic devices such as phones and bluetooth devices sitting close to the tv. Final possible solution to why it has the those ghost lines is that, if you turn your tv on and you start flicking through channels like instantly and then after 5 mins or so of use you turn off the tv, this can do seriously damage and lots of people do this, as to why they get tv's replaced real fast. Also if your watching tv, don't turn it on then turn it off this is bad for the tv internally esp the screen, and also make sure you don't go over 6 hrs a day with the tv on, regardless, flatscreen, old tv, small or big. plasma and or LCD.
I'd in your case move the tv to a new room or so without lots of heat etc and see if the problem reduces as the signs your getting could be just the start of the problem and/or you can take your tv to local repairs shop and tell them the problem and sort out your case further or get a new tv instead. Good Luck |

Re: snowy static Westinghouse LTV-32w6
The thing is, I have never watched TV on my LCD. It is used as a monitor for my PC via VGA. Also it has never been in the sun and it stays a cool 77f in my house.
Thanks for replying. |

Re: snowy static Westinghouse LTV-32w6
it looks like an issue with the monitor itself. Since other lcd's work fine in same room, it can't be any signal interference issue.

Re: snowy static Westinghouse LTV-32w6
Another thing you do is get in contact, via internet or email or phone the company and ask them about the problem and ways to get around things to sorting out the problem. I understand the unit is out of warranty and you cannot return it for repairs or replacements but your best bet right now is either, email them and ask the company about the problems, they might give you advice/tips/solutions from their onwards, you can also take it to a local electronics repair place and see what they'll say about it, and your final is just buying a new LCD and replacing that one your using now.
