Need help with Lifechat LX-3000 - distorted sound

I recently purchased the Lifechat lx-3000 so i could talk with my friends on skype, as well as use my computer and listen to music and such late at night when everyone else is asleep. I installed the software and plugged in the headset when i was prompted to, but the problem is that as soon as practically any noise comes thru the headsets speakers, it is completely distorted, and atrocious sounding. The only thing that doesnt sound messed up is when i talk into the microphone and can hear my own voice clearly. I have no idea what to do. I tried uninstalling it, reinstalling it. I went into sound options and made it my primary device. I really need help!

My system is running Vista 64 Premium, and the sound device i have built into my computer is the Realtek HD audiio manager. I have a feeling that this might be a possible cause, but does anyone know how to fix it?

Re: Need help with Lifechat LX-3000

Do you have any other headsets or speakers available to test and see if the Lifechat is damaged?

We need to find out if it's the problem with your computer or the headphone.

well i know its not the headset itself, because i use it on my laptop and it works perfectly, but as soon as i use it on the desktop it doesnt work. also i had the lx-2000 before this one and it was an analog headset and it worked fine, but i returned it in favor of the (what i thought) slightly better headset
