the sound is not working! need help!

Hi everyone! I bought another computer a few months ago, i think i was a few months ago. anyway, i've been too lazy to post the problem up here and now my mom is getting desperate for the sound (yes i bought it for my mom, and no, i'm not going to sell it back). The computer language was in English (English winXP), but my mom can't read english, so i have a friend in China to send me a CD to reformat the computer so everything is in Chinese(turning it into Chinese winXP). The problem is after i reformat (don't know if 'reformat' is the correct term for this situation) the sound is gone. before i do it, i have sound, i played music on it, it worked great. but now, IT'S COMPLETELY GONE!

here's a recap: Before: it's working; After: it's gone.
BTW: the speakers are pre-installed into the computer.
any help would be REALLY helpfull. plz and thx ppl

Re: the sound is not working! need help!

You will need to install the sound drivers from the CDs accompanying the computer. If you have a model number and other details we can try to find it out from the manufacturers's website.

Re: the sound is not working! need help!

You need to find out what make and model your sound card is, so we can look up the correct drivers for you to install.

Re: the sound is not working! need help!

now that's going to be a problem, because i don't have time to crack open my computer and ***** it back in. even if i had time to do it, i don't even know how to identify it, i can only say "it's shaped like a component in a computer."
can't you just give me a list of drivers to install? I can download them and leave it there to download.

Re: the sound is not working! need help!

Giving a list of drivers would literally take hours (possibly days) to download and try and could create conflicts with your existing drivers.

What is the make and model of the computer itself? I can try and find the correct driver, for you, using this information.

Sound cards and Ethernet cards are a major source of issue when reformatting and reinstalling Windows XP. Usually we can find the correct driver by simply downlaoding it from the computer manufacturers website.

Re: the sound is not working! need help!

Well, you can go to device manager > choose the device > Properties > Details tab and note down the value for Device Instance ID.

e.g. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_282A&SUBSYS_02331028&REV_03\3&61A AA01&0&FA

Then use this website to locate your device:

PCI Vendor and Device Lists

In the above e.g. VEN_8086 means the Vendor is Intel Corporation & DEV_282A means the Device is:
Chip Number: ICH8ME/9ME
Chip Description: Raid Controller

Re: the sound is not working! need help!

sorry for the long reply. basically i don't have time to check my other computer. So next time I post the make and the model a sound card, will be in this post. I'm going to edit it to avoid double posting. I thank you for waiting on me.
