Unhappy PC to TV

I have a Intel core2duo 2ghz with intel 82945G chipset motherboard. I recently downloaded a few movies in MKV format. I converted them to DivX format and burnt it to my DVD to watch it on my TV. But the movie gets stuck in between after sometime. It happened for other movies too which were in divx format(direct-no convert). But these movies played with no prob on my PC!!!

So i got fed up with my Philips DVD player & finally decided to connect my pc to my CRT TV (PANASONIC) 26" so that i can watch without any headache! I bought an VGA to RCA cable. Since i do not have a graphic card i connected the VGA cable to the VGA port(15 pin) on my motherboard (where we usually connect our PC monitor) & connected the video pin of the RCA end to my PANASONIC 26" CRT TV. I switched on my computer..

But except for a few garbled lines i didn't get any display on my TV. I changed the display settings on my comp right from 640*480 to 1440*900. But no use.

Is this the right method??? Can u please tell me how t get proper display on my TV????

Re: PC to TV

After a lots of googling i found out that the only way is to purchase a scan converter box which converts the signals from PC so that it can be displayed on the TV. I think direct connection with an adapter cable like VGA-RCA/s-video- RCA is not possible unless your computer has a graphic card which supports Video out function.

So i found the best way is to buy a scan converter rather than investing in a graphics card which will cost a lot more!

Re: PC to TV

I bought an LCD TV with D-SUB (VGA) and DVI inputs so that I can connect my old PC to the D-SUB port and the laptop via the DVI port.

And on a side note please please never re-encode mkv x264 movies to DivX. You're ruining the quality! Play the in your computer using Media Player Classic Home Cinema and hook it up to the TV. Or better you can buy an x264 player like Popcorn Hour.

Re: PC to TV

But the thing is that i cant afford a LCD TV now...So currently planning to buy a Scanconverter which would be relatively cheaper option!
