Upgrading the video on a Gateway GT5656

Will be using the card to connect the pc to a 46" HDTV using 1080p.

My motherboard has an AMD athlon 64x2 dual core 6000+3.0Ghz, 4GB RAM, 500watt power supply.

Current card is the OEM Geforce 6150

What should I be looking at in terms of a video card? I have $100 Best Buy gift card as an Xmas gift and that is my budget.

For just watching TV and movies, pretty much anything will do. If you want to do a bit of gaming, go for something like this: XFX 7750 Best Buy I use an MSI 7750 in my HTPC (similar specs to yours) and it runs older games quite nicely (Obv trying to get Cry3 running on it would be a waste of time)

Thanks. I have no idea what Cry3 is.

That 7750 offered by XFX is DDR3. Should I look for an DDR5 7750?

Oh yes if you can find something with better specs in your price bracket then go for it The XFX one was just an example of what would be suitable.

Cry3 is shorthand for Crysis 3, the latest in the Crysis series. Crysis is often used as a benchmark for gaming computers as it's a *real* PC game as opposed to a console port.
