The mythology surrounding GHB

IGNORING THE DANGERS OF GHB CAN RESULT IN DEATH

GHB Information is a site dedicated to raising public awareness on the dangers of the drug, whilst presenting the facts with clarity. We are here to help educate both those who are interested in learning the facts about the substance and those whose lives are affected by it; with a view to helping addicts and their families seek appropriate rehab or detox programs. These programs are applicable to any type of drug and are highly recommended. You will encounter a variety of different ones listed throughout the site.

Regardless of all the clear dangers surrounding GHB, it is still marketed on the Internet as a safe substance.

Many support the notion that it is perfectly ok to sell GHB commercially because it is a naturally occurring compound. We can see this clearly in an article by Will Block of life-enhancement.com. His facile argument claims that:

“Under the DHS&EA’s new definition, to be considered a dietary supplement a substance has to be either a vitamin, a mineral, an amino acid, a nutrient, an herb, or an extract, concentrate, or metabolite of any of these. Furthermore, it must have previously been sold commercially and not had a New Drug Application (NDA) issued for it by the FDA. GHB is found in meat, it had been previously available commercially, and no NDA had ever been issued for it. Consequently, in accordance with DHS&EA, GHB clearly qualifies as a dietary supplement.”

He also claims that the medical benefits of GHB are being ignored because “police agencies and knee-jerk state legislators, spurred on by “helpful” FDA and DEA “experts” and unquestioning media reports, are moving rapidly to ban the sale and use of GHB on a state-by-state basis by promulgating hysteria, lies, and distortions.”

Somehow I can’t imagine the families of scores of dead GHB users appreciating being called promulgators of “hysteria, lies and distortion”.

Some people argue that GHB is a perfectly safe substance to use recreationally unless it is mixed with alcohol. This is absolute nonsense. While alcohol does raise the level of danger, the drug is lethal in its self if a high dose is taken.
