Upgrade to Wordpress 2.5 - A Big Change!

At last I’ve decided to upgrade Wordpress to the latest version 2.5 which is released a few days back. We were using an aged 2.1 version for the sake of a few nice plugins, more than that the time to upload the files and all. :) But the upgrade was really fast, completed in 1 minute, yeah you read it right. I’ll write the details in another post.

This version of wordpress is a lot more faster when compared to what we already have. Another thing that changed is the database, which is now here in TechTalkz.com dedicated server itself. Well, that’s another story! In short i forgot to move the blog database from the old shared host and all these days poor wordpress was accessing data from a geographically distant sever. So I assume you’ll notice the improvement in the page loading time.

Wordpress 2.5 - Changes

I can’t stop without saying a bit about the new features in Wordpress 2.5. Well the first thing I noticed is the improved admin dashboard. The color theme is changed and the options are totally re-arranged. A pic posted in Wordpress.org is below.

The mass-moderating options of comments is a plugin I would pay for if implemented by someone else. It’s the the best feature I have in the vBulletin script of our forums. Deleting those cleaver spam comments are now really easy.

A few of other awesome improvements are listed below:

  • Cleaner, faster, less cluttered dashboard
  • Dashboard Widgets
  • Multi-file upload with progress bar
  • EXIF extraction
  • Search posts and page
  • Tag management
  • Password strength meter
  • Concurrent editing protection
  • Few-click plugin upgrades
  • Friendlier visual post editor
  • Built-in galleries
  • Media buttons

Read more about these features in matt’s WP 2.5 announcement post. I can’t wait any longer to tryout the new features of WP 2.5.
