Time Travel! – Search Google in 2001

Yeah, you read me right. Google has setup an exact replica of their index from way back in 2001 where facebook or myspace or youtube doesn’t exist! Google setup all this as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations.

The old school looking logo is the first thing to catch your eye. The other differences are minimal like missing ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ button and the Google account linkbar at the top. Take a look at the screenshot below:

It’s just a great experience to see how the search giant performs on those days. Most of the search results gives links from .edu ( Universities) domains. Websites like CNN, CNET are also widely indexed and shows up in most of the queries. A search for youtube yields zero results, Wow!

Now a comparison search for ‘Paris Hilton’. In 2001 we have a number of search results for Hotel Hilton rather than the star!
