Mozilla Firefox coming to enter your Mobile..

by Sunit on October 12, 2007

Some of us do surely remember the long overdue announcement by Mozilla about its work on a Mobile browser. Now again a new announcement has come indicating that it is current working on a version of it.

Firefox Mobile
Announcement further said that the mobile browser will be designed for mobile phones and will make its first appearance sometime in 2008.

To achieve this ambitious project, it has hired two very high profile mobile developers for this project i.e. Christian Sejersen who will head up engineering and development of the browser, and France Telecom researcher Brad Lassey who will also be part of the same team.

coolest thing here is that the new mobile version will act like the desktop version and will also include support for XUL and extensions. Also, work is being done trying to make it portable i.e. where a user could easily port preferences, bookmarks, and so forth between the mobile and the desktop.

I think, hard time for Opera is coming up soon. At present Opera is the enjoying the monopoly of the mobile browser market with its free Opera Mini and Opera Mobile.

I had heard Microsoft was also gonna make something like that. As far as my memory is concerned, it was DeepFish. But never heard of it again. Anyway, it was only for Windows Mobile based handsets, while Opera has browsers for Java and Symbian phones, the most popular versions of handsets.

In this case, just hope that the browser is for Java and Symbian phones also.
