Why SOPA and PIPA are Garbage

Hi all
Just thought i'd say a lil about this blatant attack on personal freedoms that may be coming into force in the near future.
Both bills were originally going to allow companies to block domain names of sites simply for being capable of copyright infringement-a thoroughly moronic idea as your average internet pirate (and pretty much any mildly tech-savvy person) would know you can still access the website by typing in its IP-hell, there are even Chrome and FF extensions to do this automatically when you type in the domain name, so all it would have done would be to stop the less savvy internet users form accessing various websites (most of them probably perfectly legit eg youtube). This part of both bills has now, i believe, been abolished.
SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act) targets any website which is perceived to facilitate infringement of copyright-this is so broad there are few sites which would be completely safe from it-Youtube, Wikipedia, and any other sites for sharing media would be liable. Fortunately, Obama says he will not support the bill, so it is pretty much dead in the water.
Unfortunately, PIPA has yet to be killed off. It's not quite as bad because the targeted site must have more illegal content than not. But, when videos like this get removed for copyright infringement, most of our favourite-legal-sites would still be liable. PIPA is effectively a tool to remove the tool that provides a means for infringing content to exist rather than a tool to remove the infringing content itself-companies already have the Digital Millenium Copyright Act for that. It's like making certain makes of cars illegal so that criminals can't use them as a getaway car. It's crazy.
If that ain't bad enough, think about what other countries might do following suit if this goes through.
