I haven't had the pleasure of finding that out. It certainly registers a 'score' of greater than 7000 kbps for my connection at times. Graham |

I've always judged connections by the steady 60KB/sec I got when I used to have a 512Kb connection with Claranet many years ago. Going by that speed I just multiply the megabits by 120 to see how fast in kilobytes per second things should be transferring at. However, it seems kindof flawed - maybe it doesn't take into account the greater TCP/IP wastage, since for my 23098 sync the formula says that I should be getting 2.64 megabytes per second download speed, but the ThinkBroadband speed test only reaches 2.4MB/sec. Eeeeeh, it's roughly right. As for uploading, the rough formula of kbits*117/1000 gives a 288KB/sec speed, so my real-world 270KB/sec is roughly okay. The Excel spreadsheet I use for this kind of thing is here: http://a.nfshost.com/kilobytes_kilob...calculator.xls Note that I was never very good at maths so someone please correct me if I'm completely wrong or there is a better formula that takes into account the relative increase in overhead the faster you go. |
