The problem is what do you want to check? Your connection cannot be faster than the slowest link in the chain. If your ISP has a speed checker, then at off peak times, you should see roughly your down BRAS speed. If your ISP doesn't give you access to your profile it may be because they don't want you to know. If you have a shiddy ISP with insufficient backhaul bandwidth then speed checkers, other than your ISP's will give poor speeds. Worst case if you use one of the Stateside speed checkers at peak times, say around 8-10pm in the UK then your speed will probably be appalling. All this is before you take into account traffic shaping. If there is traffic shaping then P2P may be very slow, slow because of your ISP's traffic shaping, and maybe only one or two seeds with slow upload speeds. |
