Leave the router on 24/7 and make sure you have a good ADSL filter. If you are not getting the expected speed it's a bit late in the day to find you have a shiddy filter, or everything but the kitchen sink on the phones side, like caller ID unit, answerphone, fax machine, extensions and extension bells. Worth trying two cheapo T shaped filters in series on the phone side. Plug ADSL RJ11 into the first, so it's directly onto the line, phone plug of second filter into phone socket of the first, phones into that. It doesn't seem to affect the voice and ringing, but the bit of extra HF filtering on the phone side seemed to stabilise my rate at its best figure. Of course you could buy one of the premium grade or a filtered faceplate, even then, two filters in series will do no harm, and may do some good, partcularly on marginal lines. |

For customers using a router, you should power off the >router for a minute, then power it back on and allow it to reconnct." Hmmm, I must admit I find this thread a bit confusing. The advice to reboot the rooter daily throughout the initial ten day training period was often touted here too previously, however the latest advice given, to keep the router connected, seems to contradict it. Has something changed, or was the previous advice wrong? -- Martin Jay |
