8Mb broadband

Can you have a look at this, and sort it out so someone other than
yourself can understand it.
The way it reads is, the distance from the cable exchange does matter.

The only reason you don't get the speed, is cuz they have signed too
many people up to the service in each area, and as a result there is not
enuff bandwidth to share amongst everyone.
So in order for everyone to get at least 35kbps each, they have to limit
everyone and share it all out between them all.

Completely different to how ADSL works...

Maybe you'd like to produce some evidence to back up your claim that
"everyone" gets limited so that everyone can get at least 35kbs.

8 Meg they promised

"Promised?" Vas is das "promised"?

I don't know of any ISP that's rash enough to "promise" 8 meg; isn't
it always "up to 8 meg -- conditional on line length, phase of the
moon, and what we find in the entrails of that chicken over there"?

Ditto. Attenuation goes up for HF as the square of the disance and is
heavily dependent on installed copper type.

I'd say the majority off ADSL max users were between 1.5 and 4Mbps.

What are your line statistics ? I had a similar problem until a RF filter was
removed from the line. That'll show up in the attenuation figures though.

I don't disagree entirely, but then again, that's why I qualified my stateme
with the phrase "more likely"; ie all things being equal and the UBR your
being connected to not being one of the dodgly ones.

See. It's all about not making generalised, sweeping statements ;-)
