No. Look at the AAISP web site, front page, at: Look at top right, where it says 'up to 8Mb/s', and click on the link ('Max'). They then have a long section about what speed you may actually get, and an explanation (and link to a table) of the difference between sync rate and IP rate. -- [ 7'ism - a condition by which the sufferer experiences an inability to give concise answers, express reasoned argument or opinion. Best move I made, Installing supplied router was straight forward. 16 meg connection downloading at a constant 1.78Mb/sec. Full DVD in 45min. Highly recommended Roy |

Then for any protocol a home user is likely to use, you'll have at least a 2% TCP overhead, then re-transmissions from the occasioanal dropped packet and you'd better throttle your upload rate or waiting for ACKs will slow your downloads. |

That's all included in their explanation. -- [ 7'ism - a condition by which the sufferer experiences an inability to give concise answers, express reasoned argument or opinion. Nothing to do with the phone line John after I posted last night I had another go with the BE box I installed it on the laptop and it connected first time and gave me a speed of 16+Mbps . Now I then downloaded Java and a few other bits of software and re checked the speed and it had dropped down to around 8 !!,I am now starting to wonder if the box is slightly faulty another reason for this is the fact that when I unpacked it the power supply cord wasn't packed neatly it looked like it had just been thrown in the cardboard box with the cord just thrown on top any old how. I am now wondering if BE have sent me a box that they have had returned the Netgear is still only giving me just short of 8 . |

It is a good and comprehensive explanation. They do emphasise that "Good internal wiring is often a key factor in getting the best performance out of your broadband line." You have also pointed out in a previous post that the ADSLnation filter and twisted pair lead from filter to router is a worthwile investment. I am between 5.5km and 6km from the exchange. My Netgear DG834G router, with the supplied filter and lead connected in the NTE5, andleft powered on, used to resynch itself occasionally (two or three times a week) and ran between 1720kps and 2016kps. The BRAS rate would vary between 1.5M and 1.75M (as *used* to be reported on my connection stats by my ISP). I took your advice and installed the ADSLnation filter and 10m lead (there is a backup reason for this long lead) and now get rock solid synch at 2432 and BRAS of 2M (as given on by ). The phones, connected or disconnected from the filter, never made a slightest difference to the synch rate before or after installing the new filter and lead. Good advice, thanks Bob. -- brightside S9 |
