Virginmedia ADSL

Has something gone totally wrong or what. For the last week, in fact since I
gave my 30 days notice the speed has been erratic and mostly low. My profile
is 7000kbps and its dropped off slightly over the last couple of months but
usually between 3000 & 6500kbps except at peak useage periodsand then not
usually below 2000kbps. But now I get between 150kbps and only very
occasionaly up to 6000kbps.This morning (0120 hrs Monday) I can only get
between 150 and 780kbps. Rebooted modem a few times with no difference. Ping
to bbc gives110m latency and I am about 300 metres from exchange. Neighbour
2 mile away gets about 5500kbps with BT.
Just hoping that it will be better with the 'Post Office' adsl service which
I believe is supplied by BT.

You can't compare your connection with what someone else living 2 miles away
gets.
I get 8Mbps but next door gets 5.1Mbps. Both cables go to the same pole,
the only difference is that I am on the exchange up the road and he is on
one about 3 miles away.

Possibly not, there might be a fault on your line or at the exchange. No
way of knowing until you get the new service connected. PO ADSL doesn't
look very good, what made you go for them?

May be a red herring but there is discussion on thinkbroadband about VM
and performance - in this case specifically directed at gaming issues.
It does suggest they are playing around with their network configuration.

Still not long to go - who are you escaping to?

Where I am located there is only one possible exchange that we can connnect
to. A BT engineer checked my line whilst out doing some other work and he
measurd it at 7100kbps. My profile is set at 7000kbps. Just checked speeds
at 1800hrs and mine was 925kbps and neighbours 6845kbps. Checked with two
different computers and modems. I don't download any large media files apart
from possibly a linux download of about 700mb once every other month so not
a heavy user.
Changed to Post Office as it is far cheaper and they don't charge premium
rates for you to report phone faults. The only thing I will miss is not
being able to use 18866 for the odd international call but I will use skype
instead. I do not know if PO adsl doesn't look good or not, but I do know
that Virgin give a poor adsl service with even a worse customer service.

Not posting to this forum? As I have previously mentioned (and as it common
knowledge for anyone working in the area of 'customer service', un-happy
customers are *far * more vocal than happy customers.

From the VM Q3 results document:
"At the quarter end, we had 282,300 off-net broadband subscribers, with
growth of 7,100 in the quarter."

off-net = those on ADSL via virgin.net

I have no doubt that some are not happy. I also have no doubt that a lot of
them are very happy.

You point was?

So by your thinking I shouldn't posting about how happy I am with Idnet !

You really aren't capable of clear thinking are you.

So where are VM's satisified customers then ?
