Error : Windows cannot find 'csrcs.exe' make sure you typed the name correctly
Hi friends,
My o.s is windows xp 2002 service pack 2 and my antivirus is Avast and super antispyware which are regularly updated. My problem is everytime after booting I get a message like this " windows cannot find 'csrcs.exe' make sure you typed the name correctly " I wish to know what is this 'csrcs' ? Is it a virus ? Should I remove this ? I searched for this in my computer but found none. My antivirus doesn't detect anything. Please help me. ![]() Last edited by Strider; 19-04-2009 at 08:39 PM.. |

Re: error : Windows cannot find 'csrcs.exe' make sure you typed the name correctly
This must be caused by a left over registry entry by Avast once it removed a virus.
Check out the startup entries: 1. Start > Run & type in mscofig. Press Enter. 2. From the new windows opened switch to the Startup tab. It should look something like this: ![]() 3. Look for entries like csrcs.exe or csrcs. If found untick the checkbox next to it and click Ok. If you can't find the entry download CCleaner, install and run it. From the Registry section do a scan and Fix any reported issues. Even if you found the entry from the msconfig screen and CCleaner scan and fix is recomended. |

Re: Error : Windows cannot find 'csrcs.exe' make sure you typed the name correctly
if you cannot find the entry in msconfig or ccleaner, open regedit.exe and look for any value that refers to the csrcs.exe file in the following registry locations :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServices HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServicesOnce HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnceEx HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunOnce HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunServices HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunServicesOnce HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run

Re: Error : Windows cannot find 'csrcs.exe' make sure you typed the name correctly
Firstof all thank u very much for ur instant detailed reply. As u said, it was not in the start up. I also tested CCleaner, couldn't find it. Next I searched in the eleven registry location as u said, still I couldn't find out. Finally when I searched in the net, I found out that there is one more registry location to look into. It is........ HKEY_ LOCAL _ MACHINE\ Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon\ Here we will find a key with the name "shell" check whether the value of the key is something like " explorer.exe csrcs.exe " Here I found out my entry and removed 'csrcs.exe ' alone. Then when I restarted my system my error was gone. ![]() |
