Re: Best Anti-virus and Anit-spyware?

Well, I've added a poll listing a few of of the main Antivirus players. Multiple votes are enabled. A few of the vendors are left out like Avira, Trend Micro etc.

Re: Best Anti-virus and Anit-spyware?

Right now I am using Avira Personal Edition. It does its job, and never had a problem with viruses.

Still, the best way is to prevent the virus from ever reaching your system rather than having to remove the virus once it infects your system

As the saying goes (medicinal) - Prevention is better than Cure. Or (automotive) - Maintenance first rather than repair. *** Cheers ***

Yes, prevention is the best way to go.
Once you get infected there's nothing but trouble.

Depthcharger04, I looked at download.com for user reviews regarding the AVG Free Edition 9.0.
The ratings seem pretty good, 4 stars out of 5.

You might give it a try and see how it works.
If you decide to go with it please tell me your impressions.

Re: Best Anti-virus and Anit-spyware?

The best anti-virus and anti-spyware are not freeware or free edition. Free edition can only remove few viruses. Go with the license. If you're not sure, there are trial versions for you to try, some are 30, 60 or 90 days. After you are convince, buy one. Warning, too many anti-virus installed makes your system slower and sometimes the anti-virus detects the other anti-virus as a virus.

Re: Best Anti-virus and Anit-spyware?

In my experiece:

Kaspersky > NOD32 > BitDefender > Avast

Now I'm seeing reports that Norton 2010 is good, especially the gaming edition. Personally I'm using ESET Smart Security.

Re: Best Anti-virus and Anit-spyware?

Personally I never had Kaspersky so I can't really compare it to AVG.

Probably Kaspersky is better, but it also definitely uses a lot of OS resources and kind of slows your PC down (that's what friends of mine told me who really are Kaspersky fans - Bitdefender has the same issues).

Anyway, maybe they solved this problem in the 2010 version. You should give it a try and see for yourself.

Very important though is that you don't use 2 antivirus programs at the same time. Use one, uninstall it if you don't like it and then install another one.
