I don't think so. In my experience Kaspersky Antivirus is the best solution (in detection and removal). But for home users it's a bit agressive. ESET NOD32 antivirus is another good choice.

Nowadays most of the spyware infections will be handled by the antivirus itself. But if you need a dedicated Antispyware solution Spybot S&D is the first choice and at the best price, FREE! Webroot Spysweeper is another good but commercial option.

Strider is completely right about Kaspersky and ESET NOD32.

On a personal note, I myself am using the Avast Avira Antivir Personal Edition. Based from my experience, never had problems with Viruses while I am using this Antivirus program. Of course its all about preference.

Re: Best Anti-virus and Anit-spyware?

I'm using free tools like AVG Free Edition and Spybot Search & Destroy.
I once almost got infected by accessing a hacked website, but these 2 helped me out.

In my opinion a good antivirus is easy to use and won't eat up all my resources when scanning and running in background.

As long as you keep your virus definitions updated daily I think any antivirus will do the job.

Re: Best Anti-virus and Anit-spyware?

Well, if you're interested in a free antivirus go for Avast Home edition. It's better than AVG.

I vote for Linux as number 1 anti-virus; spyware; malware; bloatware.

Re: Best Anti-virus and Anit-spyware?

In response to depthcharger04's question is Norton good, no it is not, you would be way better off with what all the other people have suggested, Noton 360 fails in soooooooo many ways.
Up with AVG, Avast, Kaspersky (_INSERT ANTIVIRUS NAME HERE_)

I vote for PCillin, which is an antivirus software that went out of date about 1998 (I was running windows 98 at the time) because it has an awesome name
