Question Windows 7 hard drive recognition problem

Hello everybody, this is my first post so bare with me *gulp*

Ok down to business, im having a issue with installing windows 7,when i get to the 'select location to install windows' bit and i try to format my 1tb drive it does not seem to be able to identify the correct size of my hard drive it simply reads it as being 32MB big. my first idea was that it was probably a issue with the mother board drivers not being able to detect it properly so i have downloaded the most recent bios updates for my gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 but the installer simply crashs everytime i run it (btw running it on vista atm) please help

Thanks for taking time to read this and any help is appreciated

Also tryed using a windows xp boot disk to format the drive but encounterd the exact same problem so it cant be the OS must be a BIOS problem or hard drive problem Right?

Re: Windows 7 hard drive recognition problem

I think you have RAID enabled and have RAID drivers installed. I'm pretty sure this is the main thing holding you back from formatting your system and that your RAID drivers are not supported on the OS disc you've been using, as I have had this problem long ago. The only solution my friend is to Slipstream these drivers from the setup files or extractors you download from your site and then slipstream by using nlite for XP and vlite for Vista. Once slipstreamed you'll need another blank disc to burn the new slipstreamed OS on either DVD or CD, vice versa for both XP and Vista.

Re: Windows 7 hard drive recognition problem

For Windows 7, I suggest you wait till May 5th and get the RC build 7100 (it already looks like leaked into torrent sites) and try the RC version. it might be some bug in the build you are using since build 7077 is a internal build and internal builds tend to have some strange bugs sometimes. From Windows Vista onwards raid drivers are automatically detected. So your hard disk should be detected.

If you have only a single hard disk then enter BIOS and disable any such RAID features enabled from BIOS or even try enabling/disabling ICH from bios. For XP you can either slipstream the drivers ans Chef said, or press F6 when it asks to for 3rd party SCSI or RAID drivers and later insert the floppy containing the RAID drivers.

Re: Windows 7 hard drive recognition problem

Windows 7 comes with Windows XP in it. Its a new type of virtualisation kit that you can download from Microsoft separately for Windows 7 products. Basically a good example would be this. You boot up Windows 7, you don't want it, but you want XP, just click a button and you got XP up. Basically Windows 7 uses core of both XP and Vista but more reliable and heavily tweaked, and faster then XP's functionality and better looking then Vista.
