Windows XP

E-Machines lan driver

I have an e_machines lap top (m2352). I installed a new hard drive. XP installed easily. But my wireless adapter, ethernet connection and sound are problematic for me. I got the sound back and the wireless G adapter to. Now the ethernet connection, I can find 2 broadcom lan drivers. Either they don't work or I am not installing it correctly.

On the new drive, device magnager shows Other devices/Ethernet Controller with the yellow ? mark. On the old drive, device manager does not even show Other Devices.

I used the old drive and looked up Driver details for the ethernet connection. It showed bcm4sbxp.sys in the windows/system32/drivers folder. I tried copying that into the folder on the new drive. Didn't work. I then tried copying everything in the drivers folder in the drivers folder on the new drive. Still didn't work.

I didn't and don't want to do a disk to disk copy of the old drive onto the new drive. Part of the reason I got the new drive was to rebuild from the ground up, getting rid of the clutter I can't see. Except for not being able to hardwire it to the net, it works MUCH better.

I need a way to extract the driver information from the old drive. I am at my wits end now. Any suggestions?

Rick

Re: E-Machines lan driver

Did you get the LAN drivers from the manufacturer's website? Or if you can find out the exact chipset you have you might be able to get the driver from here: http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethe...oaddrivers.php

Re: E-Machines lan driver

Yes, I got the the drivers from manufacturers site (now gateway). I think it was combo of not getting the right one and me not installing it correctly. Sometimes drivers are installed by clicking on a setup.exe type file and other times, need to use a setup.inf file.

I need to become more proficient and quick in these driver issues. Sound has always been a bit troublesome for me if it doesn't install on a fresh install. I manage to get sound working, but it's some fumbling around to do it.

Thanks
Rick

Is this Danish broadband comparison site legit? If so, why spam it in unrelated posts?
