Hello,
I'm unable to see the overlay windows (and the movie that should be in it) with ImTOO's DVD Ripper Platinum 5.0.50 Build 0619. I suspect it has to do with the video overlay codec either not being on my system or broken but I can't confirm that without knowing what it is supposed to being using. I also have this problem with the Xilisoft's product's as well, which adds more potential to the Codec issue I'm chasing. One last item. As I said above the screen of the DVD Ripper does not even show the black screen that illustrates where the overlay window should be. All of the controls for the video player are there and they do function for playing the a video from the DVD it's just there is no video, just sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Norm |

Re: What Video Codec is used for overlay dispaly in ImToo's DVD Ripper Platinum 5
You may need to pass it the appropriate flags though. Have a look at
the same code on Shrinkwrap Visual Basic for the calling syntax, the BMP to AVI example definitely shows the codec dialog. Render to a hidden picture box then StretchBlt() up to the form (Or wherever you're drawing.) With Ray's code though you could just StretchBlt() in the first instance rather than having to draw twice. Incidentally, the API drawing functions are a lot faster than VB's implementations though and as such you'll get better performance using them.

Re: What Video Codec is used for overlay dispaly in ImToo's DVD Ripper Platinum 5
I'm sorry, I have no idea what your talking about? I don't render anything, the application I purchased does that. There are no published API's or other technical documents that I've been able to find. But let re-iterate the problem in another way.
The purchased application's normal ability to display a video is no longer working and I don't know why. Becuase the effected part of the application has to do with the displaying of video content, my first guess is that it's probably a codec issues but I have no way to actually determine that its the problem. But if it is, I have a FREEWARE application callled Sherlock which will display all of the audio and video codec's on my system. So given my current problem, my first part of investigating what is going on is to check to see if the codec used by the application is also on my system. So, that's why I'm hoping someone might know "what codec the ImtOO's DVD Ripper uses to display videos". I also want to add that the problem also exists within the Xilisoft's video converter. Since ImTOO and Xilisoft share the same code base between each other, it has to do with the code base in which they both share. Hopefully that helps explain my problem a little better... Norm (If your only tool is a hammer, all your problems begin to look like nails.) I'm hoping that I can determine if the one it uses is there or not. Right now, that's my only lead to chase. Now, I've re-installed my display drivers and soon I will be re-installing the Windows Media Player codec just to see if that makes any difference. |

I've tried re-installing. I even did manually cleaning the registry and all file(s) and re-installing, the results are always the same No Video. I spent the better part of a month trying to debug this problem with no luck. After extensively testing and tracking everything possible from DLL usage and system processes, the Video Overlay component is the one area I can not test without knowing what technology is being used in the overlay process. Hence my question... What Video Codec or other technology is being used within the Video Overlay process.
Another question would be, what command line interface switches are available to do "more detailed debuging" from within the application itself? ![]() |
