Angry finding scanner software

I have Windows XP. I do a lot of scanning and LOVED my old Paint Shop 5 Photo/document program. They were taken over by Corel, and I couldn't access them any more, and I HATE Corel. I can't seem to do half the editing, cropping, etc. with their program. And don't even mention Snapfire, with all their pop-up ads! Does anyone have any suggestions for a good all-around reasonably priced (or free) program that a "non-techie" like me could install and use to scan magazine articles, photos, etc.??

Smile Re: finding scanner software

I have the OMNIPAGE 16 OCR Software, which wasn't very effective on my Windows XP so I stopped using it. Cost me quite a bit and I want to get rid of it. OCR isn't as important to me as scanning photos and mag articles, which I am presently doing as photos, since I couldn't get the OCR working properly anyway. I'm fudging it. I shouldn't have had to buy the program, it's on my Windows XP, but have yet to find it working consistantly when I scan. Thanks
