Dungeon Keeper 2 Vista Video Issue

Hello,

I've had trouble running Dungeon Keeper 2 in Vista Premium Home in Video Hardware mode. When I run the game, it recognizes the video card and defaults to hardware mode, but in the game screen only the interface, mouse pointer and text comes up. The main game screen [the actual dungeon] does not.

Something I found out was when I zoomed all the way in, you can see the main screen [the dungeon heart] and it is in hardware mode, but when you zoom back out again it gradually turns to black again.

I've tried everything, the 1.7 patch, the dual-core unchecked thing, the latest video drivers, but still the same result.

It seems to be just one simple fix away from working completely working. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Dungeon Keeper 2 Vista Video Issue

sounds like a graphics card error, tried using the oldest graphics driver? (ive had problems with "too new" graphics drivers)

Re: Dungeon Keeper 2 Vista Video Issue

Well, I've thought about that, but I just know that whatever drivers I roll the video back to is just going to mess up other games on my computer [especially any newer than DK2], so I can't consider that as an option.

I've tried jacking up the resolution through regedit, but it's the same result whether it's 800X600 or any that are higher.

I'd contact EA, but I'm trying to reduce the amount of frustration, not add to it.

Has anyone had this issue with a game, where part of the screen disappears/reappears when you zoom in/out ?

Re: Dungeon Keeper 2 Vista Video Issue

soz for the double post but i think i found a soloution. It's worked for me. On thepiratebay.org i found this posted by user Computica:

"If you have an Black Image tear in game for the shortcut add these two lines "-softwarefilter" and "-32biteverything" behind the shortcut (it should look like this):
"C:\...\Dungeon Keeper II\DKII.exe" -softwarefilter -32biteverything
After that when in game make sure you go to your graphic options and un-tick hardware acceleration! Then your game should work when you either load a new map or go to the Main Menu! Make sure you make the compatiblity Win 98 or XP!!!"

(i recomend un-ticking the hardware acceleration first) after these instructions If you then have a problem with the title screen like i did, remove "-32biteverything" from the shortcut, worked for me.

Right click on the games icon on the desktop or the exe file in the installed place. Go to Properties>Compatibility>Tick Run as Adminstrator, if this doesn't work, try choosing one of the OS from the Window List.
