Brand Vs performance!

I recentl bot a philips stanalone dvd player with divX capab.I played a dvd which in all probs likely to b a pirated one.Ofcourse Its difficult to find original dvd of new movies in regional languages!
The problem is that it refused to play in my philips dvd player.i tried to play it in comp but stil cudnt! i tried in pagaria(local dvd player).stil no use!I got frustrated n went to the shop keeper to return the dvd.I gave him a nice blastin. The Shopkeeper then tried playin it in his dvd player n to my embarrasment it played in his!AND HIS WAS "INTEX" DVD PLAYER.I had heard that intex is known for producin low quality goods n neddless to say abt philips(good quality). But to my surprise intex suceeded in playin the dvd which didnt play on my philips player. Can anyone tel me wat cud b the reason! Is that intex has really produced a good DVD player?

No it's not, Intex are a low quality company and in long run they're outperformed by Philips. there's a Huge possibilty that the DVD you bought was encoded in DivX version unsupported by your DVD Player, from what i've seen, Intex plays DivX v3 easily, if you're DVD player is new, then there's a possibilty it was having problem Decoding the Video stream. it didn't play on your PC because you probably didn't have a Decoder Installed, Download ffdshow Decoder Plus Media Player Classic and Every Video file will play.

He tried to play in both and it failed. His PC probably didn't have DivX/XviD Decoder installed and his DvD Player Failed to reconize the Disk because of the incompatible DivX/XviD version

I don't think it's DIVX, i think it's either DivX or XviD, Intex Players don't decode DIVX they only decode XviD and DivX.

well DivX is a video codec which is developed by DivX Inc and is mainstream codec used for ripping movies, DIVX however, was a rental format variation on the DVD player in which a customer would buy a DIVX disc (similar to a DVD) at a low cost, which would be able to be freely viewed up to 48 hours from its initial viewing. After this period, the disc could be viewed by paying a continuation fee, typically $3.25. DIVX discs could only be played on special DIVX/DVD combo players that needed to be connected to a phone line. very hairy indeed and thats why it died without a trace, when you mentioned the words divx in capitals, i confused it with the rental format rather than the video codec. my bad?

never heard about this "DIVX" stuff .. anyways its probably a DivX codec issue for both your PC and DVD player . Maybe the movie used a older version of the codec and your Philip supports only the newer ones .... don't blame your Player for a pirated DVD and Intex ...
