RAM's dual Channel problem

Hi there,

I got,

Mobo- M2N-VM DVI
RAM- Transcend 2GB (800 M.hz), 2 sticks of 1 GB
Procy- AMDX2 4600

I hv installed my both RAM on slot A1 n B1, but it still shows single channel (used CPU-Z to view), My Mobo Supports Dual Channel RAM, no pob wit OS as i tried on vista too,

I finally installed RAM on slot A1 A2, still single channel. wat to do?

Re: RAM's dual Channel problem

for dual channel to work, you need to match the colors of the memory slots and place them in. your motherboard should automatically detect dual channel. isn't it not shown in the booting screen from the BIOS ?

Re: RAM's dual Channel problem

Another reason I don't like Dual Channel Supported motherboard like yours is because the 2 same color slots are with each other not color1 color2 color1 color2 formation. What you should do is to slot in the first ram stick into color1 slot and then ram stick 2 into color2 as I checked on the ASUS homepage for your motherboard that the first 2 slots are yellow and then the last 2 slots are black. But for Dual Channel to usually work you should just slot in the sticks that have the same color slots to enable Dual Channel Mode.

Finding out whether Dual Channel is supported or enabled during POST, during POST, it will do its usual hardware detection process until it reaches the RAM part then it will show you if your memory is in Dual Channel Mode. Another way to check if Dual Channel is enabled is by going into your BIOS by whatever the assigned key for your motherboard is to go into the BIOS (e.g F10, DEL, F2 etc) Once in your BIOS their should be a tab where it says System Information or just System Info anything to do with the latter. Once in the tab their would be a general detection information about your system hardware, i.e processor type, motherboard, bios revision version and your RAM. If it says Dual Channel next to 2048MB 800MHZ Ram, then you got Dual Channel enabled, if you it doesn't say it, Post back and I will help you further. In the meantime hope it works. Its also to do a little self experiment to get some things to work. =]

Re: RAM's dual Channel problem

Try posting some screenshots and photos of your setup and what cpu-z says...I might be able to help you from there onwards.

Re: RAM's dual Channel problem

Afaik.. Colour isn't the criteria.. Refer to the manual to see how dual channel works for your motherboard...
