Re: Diffrent kinds of memory chips
Use CPUz to know the type of RAM you have. Once you download it, Run CPUZ.exe and then click on Memory Tab to see the type of your Ram
Dynamic random access memory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia See DRAM over there Common DRAM packages as illustrated above, from top to bottom: 1. DIP 16-pin (DRAM chip, usually pre-FPRAM) 2. SIPP (usually FPRAM) 3. SIMM 30-pin (usually FPRAM) 4. SIMM 72-pin (often EDO RAM but FPM is not uncommon) 5. DIMM 168-pin (SDRAM) 6. DIMM 184-pin (DDR SDRAM) 7. RIMM 184-pin 8. DIMM 240-pin (DDR2 SDRAM/DDR3 SDRAM) |

Re: Diffrent kinds of memory chips
Currently DDR2 and DDR3 are the most common ones on the market, if not and thats because you have a 3-4 year old system, it will most likely support only DDR1.
To see what current RAM you have installed, you can go into your BIOS and the Information Tab will have it, or you can head to www.cpuid.com/ and download CPU-Z and load it up and click on Memory tab and see what RAM you have installed. DDR1 Speeds 166 (These ones never got a code name for it) 200 (PC1600) 266 (PC2100) 333 (PC2600 OR 2700) 400 (PC3200) And some rare cases you will have premium extreme DDR1 RAM modules such as Corsair X ones that range from 420 - 550. DDR2 Speeds 400 (PC3200) 533 (PC4200 OR 4300) 667 (PC5300 OR 5400) 800 (PC6400) 1066 (PC8500 OR 8600) DDR3 Speeds 1066 (PC3 8500) 1333 (PC3 10600) 1666 (PC3 12800) 2000 Apogee was the first to release extreme lines of these memories for overclocking purposes only. If you want to know the capabilities your computer can handle, you can post your motherboard model here and I can get the info straight for you, or you can download SiSoft Sandra, which is a special hardware program which tells you the latest drivers installed for your hardware, current hardware installed, stress test your computer and diagnostics and support for better and newer hardware and also hardware updates i.e Bios updates etc. Available here: SiSoftware Zone Hope this helped you. |
