Core Connundrum

Hey guys, it's been awhile since I posted here. I have a little conflict that I'd like your help to resolve. I already gave my opinion, but I want to see what you guys think.

The local community school intends to swap out all of their 5 year(ish) old PC's with some new one's this year. This is about 20 computers all together (we mostly use Mac) and it's been narrowed down to two choices, both from the same company.

The system specs are identical with the exception of the processor.

Setup one has a 2.66 ghz intel duo core processor. This is the one I suggested.

Setup two has a 2.33 ghz intel quad core processor. This costs about 50 dollars more per machine.

I suggested the duo core because we won't be using too many newer programs so it benefits from having a higher single clock speed. I'm under the impression that most programs won't utilize two cores, much less four. The only noteworthy programs would be like Microsoft Office and some CAD/Drawing/3D programs

Tell me what you think. Thanks.

Re: Core Connundrum

I'd choose the Quad Core, the apps you later mentioned will take huge benefit from the extra cores also future proofed for now and then.

MAC or PC?

Re: Core Connundrum

I agree with Chef because it's a school(they'll be using it for quite sometime) and there is some 3D rendering applications.

It'll be a good investment considering the upcoming Windows 7 release and improvements in multi-core capabilities of software.
