Re: Problem With Hard Disk - 1 pin is broke, BIOS not detecting

Simple Option1:(Replacing the 40 pin connector)
I now think the best resolution for your case will be replacing the 40 pin connector with a new one through soldering.
This is the Simple and Easy solution for your problem. if you are not sure to solder, take it to a service shop and get it done. This will not cost much.

Simple Option2:(Replacing only the broken pin with a new)

First remove the part of the broken pin from the hdd pcb.

1) Select a suitable pin on the old cd drive or hdd.

2) De-solder that pin alone.

3) After de-soldering pull out that pin from that PCB.

4) Then you need to pull out that pin from the 40 pin connector.

5) Once the pin gets out reverse the procedure on your HDD.

And One more Simple Option: Use a modified cable to connect through the HDD

Check this link to see how to modify a cable for broken pin

Hope these option helps!!

If they are charging too much, just sell a part of your important data to him.... ha ha

Re: Problem With Hard Disk - 1 pin is broke, BIOS not detecting

Hi ,
As u say after repairing the Hard drive doesnt detect in the bios then probably the 1 pin of the HDD has been damaged .
Its better u change the 40 pin connector with a new one through soldering as Albin has said.
A hard disk works with any Molex connector from the PC’s power supply. Make sure the plug is fully inserted. Molex connectors require a lot of pressure to fully insert, and even more pressure to remove, so don’t be afraid to push hard or pull, as the case may be. Just make sure you handle the plastic connector, and do not try to push or pull the wires.
If the drive is getting power but the BIOS can’t find it, try a different ribbon cable; the one in use might have a broken wire or other flaw.

well guys all the options which were given already tried .. means i get that pin soldered by a man .. he replaced the broken pin with new one & fixed it but still bios is not detecting it .. i am relax b/c the data is save as there is not sound of any kind of media striking ... & the hard disk gets the power as before it was taking ...

I am just confused that pcb swapping is not done in my area . i have asked in the biggest market of hard disk .. they said its useless ... b/c to get exaxt pcb of the same model of my hdd is nearly impossible ( may be they are not aware of it that much b/c of lack of technology)

And one man is saying that he can only recover data for me .. & he is chargin too much .. and i dont know whether he`ll be taking my hard disk or doing it by which technique .. ( but if he can recover it , it means my hard disk is ok ) ..

man i am confused ... actually my six years effort are on that hdd .. my grafix samples , my old pics which at times i spent a lot of money in scanning & so many memories .. my website works ...

i wud choose the last option but prior wanted to know what to do which will give me best result in less time or money ..

.
you say that man can recover only data, not the hard disk right?
I think the man will recover all the data in your hard disk... but not sure he will make your harddisk work again as it did before....

Usually they will try with PCB Swapping and then connect you hard disk as a slave to some other and then recover/copy data from the hard disk.
