Re: How to detect Hard disk drive

Can you still access data from your hard drive ?
If yes, just copy all your data to another drive.

If not read through the following articles who give step by step instructions on how to recover data from a broken hdd.

Re: How to detect Hard disk drive

First make sure that the drive is enabled in the bios, then go into computer management, right click on the drive and click "Mark Partition as active".

hi when you said your hard disk is going bad were you able to boot your computer normally if it does boot normally you can do backup using your windows xp

1 backup using copy and paste create new folder name backup files then copy paste all your data to this folder

its always better hat you have hard disk partition here is where you create backup files folder you can also backup your files using your usb disk and dvd rw drive

2 all windows os has backup features access control panel and sellect backup your computer

if you cannot access your hard disk even though the hard disk is recognized by your computer bios there is one suggestion i can give buy new hard disk logical thing to do because your hard disk is going bad install new windows os after complete installation install your old hard disk and see if you can access the old hard disk data

if you cant access your old hard disk data there are softwares designed to recover datas from bad hard disk but before giving you bundles of software try this procedure first

Re: How to detect Hard disk drive

Hi Friend,

It seems like you have a hard drive controller that Windows has no drivers for. These days, it's usually a SATA controller, but it might also be a RAID setup or an obscure product. You will require the drivers for it on a floppy disk. Also, make sure you press F6 when prompted during the Windows XP setup.

Thanks
James
