MS Publisher & Custom sizes

Hi,

I hope Publisher is still covered as the last post about it seems to be 6 years ago.

I am running windows 7 Home, 64 bit, and Office 2010 suite and using Publisher 2010. All are up to date with MS updates

I know there were lots of questions a few years ago about print issues from Publisher.

I just bought a new Epson XP-720 to replace a dying Canon MP980. Nice machine, lots of options including custom paper sizes.

I wanted to print 2 things: An A5 tent fold card and a C5 envelope.

I did lots of cards with the Canon, and it was quite easy once some rules were followed, but Publisher always had a few quirks even then.

The problems I remember with Publisher 2000 all came back as the card printed pages 1 & 2 on the front then 3 & 4 on the back, even using the MS template for a tent-fold card.

As time was pressing I used cutepdf to print the thing as two seperate pages then printed from Acrobat reader to the Epson.

Subsequently I tried a free issue of Page Plus from Serif and that was OK as well as Acrobat at A5 tent-fold, even getting the page order and orientation right.

Then came the envelope!

I never did this with Publisher 2000 or the Canon so I cannot say if it worked or not.

MS Publisher 2010 constantly changes the orientation and size in the custom paper size box. On the day, as I was in a rush, I printed to cutepdf and got an acceptable print eventually via Acrobat.

Later, once I realised that the set up in the Epson driver for C5 custom size needed to be as fed (i.e. 228 high and 162 wide, then select landscape) I got it to print from Acrobat and Page Plus correctly, but MS Publisher 2010 refuses to accept the custom size from the printer and changes it to 21.0 x 29.7 landscape (A4 in other words).

This is despite a MS template for C5 envelopes, landscape or portrait, in the Publisher package. The Epson does not have the C5 option, but I have saved the C5 as a custom size profile and it works in Acrobat and P.P. but not Publisher. The latter program changes the orientation from landscape to portrait. Changing it in the print driver distorts the result, stretching it to A4 in the horizontal direction or it prints in an attempt at A4 portrait!

Is there any way to persuade Publisher to accept the custom size I need?

The printer is certainly capable of using it.
Is it an Epson driver thing or Publisher error?

Is there any workaround for it?

Please!

So yesterday I was playing with settings on the Epson and Publisher. Noticed that an accidentally saved User-defined (Borderless) size was pulled into publisher, and looked OK.
I created a new paper size "C5 Envelope" under User defined tab and saved it in the Epson driver page, and amazingly enough, Publisher accepts that, right size, shape and orientation, despite being the same size as my User defined sheet, just a different name. Weird or what?
