Problem with MS-Publisher 2010 and PubCat

Hi,

I am new to TechTalkz and hope the editor can move this post to the appropriated forum. I am hoping to get advice on a problem I am having with. MS-Publisher 2010. I am using Windows 7 on a PC.

I have a document that I purposely broke into eight .PUB files in order to have the contributors of the 70 page, 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 booklet work independently.

I have a cover (no page numbers on front or back; inside or outside) and all the pages that go between the cover that must be numbered sequentially across all the pages (and all the files).

I read someone's recommendation that I turn each of the 8 sections into PDF files and combine them outside of MS-Publisher. Except for the fact that I don't have any way to edit the PDF files to correct the page numbering, I would have used that method. So I am now faced with merging the PUB files.

I read that I could use a product from SobolSoft for merging PUB files. I tried using it, but it took all my images and deposited them on the first page. I abandoned using that app.

In one of the forums on this website, I learned of a command-line tool called PubCat. I downloaded it and have been trying to use it. After some of trial and error, I was able to merge files #7 and #8 together. However, when I tried to merge file #6 with the combined #7/8, I had the app crash or give me errors. The documentation does not cover troubleshooting.

File #6 has 10 pages of linked textboxes. I thought PubCat tripped up because of the linked textboxes, so I tried it with one textbox and all the other boxes un-linked and removed. Still got an error.

The command syntax I used was:

c:\pubcat.exe /if=07_Directory.pub /of=06B_Directory.pub /ae

where #06B was my PUB file with one unlinked textbox.

The error was:

Unhandled Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8002000B): Invalid index. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8002000B (DISP_E_BADINDEX))
at Microsoft.Office.Interop.Publisher.Shapes.get_Item (Object Index)
at PubCat.cat.cat(Document& sDoc, Document& tDoc, Int32 pageNum, Int32 rotation)
at PubCat.entry.Main()

Question: would anyone have a suggestion on how to troubleshoot this issue further? Could someone point me to better documentation than the ReadMe.txt file, something that addresses troubleshooting?

Thank you ahead of time for any help you can provide!

Tom
