Sudden restart

I am really a novice at computers. but i managed to build my own pc tower. the only trouble that i ran into was the power supply not seeming to work. After many different power supplies, i found out how to test them by jumping two pins. This worked and the computer is up and running however now at random times it will shut down and restart. I am running a gigabyte 77x-ud3h motherboard with an i5 processor and 16 gb ram. I am running windows 8. please feel free to ask any questions that will help figure out this problem. Thanks in advance

Re: Sudden restart

Ok:

1) What are your full specs?

2) Is every component seated properly, no loose screws, no circuitry touching the case (there may be a short causing sudden shutdown/restarts)?

3) Is Windows fully up-to-date, have you run virus scans etc? Also, on the updating front, check whether it is set up to automatically restart to install updates

Re: Sudden restart

What else do you need as far as "full specs"? I have a Gigabyte (the last letter of the alphabet key is broken but it starts with it) _77X-UD3H mother board, Pentium i5 processor, 16 gigs of Ram, no video /graphics card other than what is on board. Running windows 8.0 because for some reason I cant update to 8.1. I dont believe that it is shorting to the case because sometimes it will go days without resetting. No, its not resetting after updates. Sometimes it will reset after the first time i click the mouse after the desktop comes up.

Yes I have. By this I am assuming that you mean the feature that causes the computer to restart when it encounters an error? Once in a while I get a message stating that I don't have enough memory to complete a task, but if I do it anyway it usually works. A few times it has shut down at this point. I have two 8 gig sticks and have allotted system memory to be used as ram. Can this have anything to do with it?

Re: Sudden restart

Upon closer inspection, the motherboard is missing one ***** but it's because there is nothing for a ***** to seat into on the chassis.
