Battlefield 4 Lag Causes & Tips to Overcome these Issues in PC

Battlefield 4 lags occur during loading screen or game play. This article highlights steps to fix the problem on different Windows platforms.

1. Disable Network Discovery
2. Disable ECN Packets
3. Optimize Background Services & Defrag Registry
4. Stop Universal Plug & Play Service
5. Disable Origin Notifications
6. Change Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames
7. Remove Saved Controls
8. Remove Corrupt License Files
9. Change Display Settings
10. Update your Drivers
11. Change Game Configurations
12. Change Undefined Monitor Number
13. Change Screen Resolution


Disable Network Discovery

Open Control Panel and turn off the Network Discovery feature. Here are the steps required:

1. Click the Start button, select Control Panel.
2. Click Network and Internet | Network and Sharing Center.
3. In the left hand side panel click “Change advanced sharing settings” link.
4. As default, your current profile will already be expanded. For example: “Guest or Public”. If it isn’t, expand the current profile with the downside arrow.
5. Select “Turn off network discovery” under “Network Discovery” category.
6. Click Save Changes and exit.


Disable ECN Packets

Some users have ECN Packets enabled which causes Battlefield 4 Lags. Use Command Prompt and disable them.

1. Click Start, select All Programs | Accessories.
2. Right click “Command Prompt”, select “Run as Administrator” option.
3. Type the following command and press ENTER:
int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled
4. Exit.

Optimize Background Services & Defrag Registry

When it comes to BF4 lags, background services and Registry fragmentation are important factors.

1. Download PC Fresher System Utilities. It has an Extreme Gaming Profile feature which is useful to optimize computer for gaming.
2. Install and run the program.
3. Use the “Services Manager” feature to stop unnecessary background items.
4. Use the “Registry Defragmenter” to analyse fragmented Registry hives and defrag them.


Stop Universal Plug & Play Service


1. Click Start, select All Programs | Accessories | Run.
2. Type “Services.msc” in the Open box, click OK.
3. Scroll down, right click UPnP Device Host” service and select “Stop” option.
4. Close the window.


Disable Origin Notifications

1. Launch Origin.
2. Click Application Settings | Notifications.
3. Disable all notifications that you see there.


Change Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames

Change the settings given below to avoid game lags:

1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
2. Click 3D Settings | Battlefield 4.
3. Change the value of “Max Pre-Rendered Frames” to 1.
4. Save your settings, exit.


Remove Saved Controls

Saved Controls are saved in the form of files. Delete unwanted save controls.

1. For Windows 7/ Vista: Click Start | <Your User Name> | Documents.
Or
1. For Windows XP: Click Start | My Documents.
2. Open the following directory:
Battlefield 4 | Prod_Body
3. Select all and delete contents in the “Prod_Body” folder.


Restore Corrupt License File

The license files mentioned in this paragraph could be corrupt. Fix Battlefield 4 Lag by restoring corrupt license files.

1. Exit Origin completely.
2. Double click My Computer desktop icon.
3. Click Tools | Folder Options.
4. In the Folder Options dialog, click the View tab, select “Show hidden files and folders” option. Click OK.
5. Open the following directory:
C:\ProgramData\Eletronic Arts\EA Services\License
6. Remove the following files, as the case maybe:
71067.dlf, 70619.dlf and 71069.dlf
Note: You may have any of these files or all depending upon several circumstances.
7. Reboot your machine.
8. Open Origin again and log-in to your account.
9. Open Battlefield 4. Removed DLL files will be re-created again.


Change Display Settings

Change display settings given in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Here’s how:

1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
2. Click Manage 3D Settings | Program Settings.
3. A drop down box appears. Select Battlefield 4.
4. Click Add button and locate the following file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4
5. Enable “Threaded Optimization” feature.
6. Click Apply and exit.


Update your Drivers
Google and download the latest driver versions available on the Internet. Update your display driver, sound (audio) driver and network driver.


Change Game Configurations

Disable unsupported features that delay response time. Change game settings in the following manner:

1. Double click My Computer desktop icon.
2. Open the following directory:
For Windows 7/ Vista: C:\Users\<Your User Name>\My Documents\Battlefield 4\Settings
For Windows XP: C:\Users\Documents and Settings\<Your User Name>\Battlefield 4\Settings
3. Right click “Prof_Save_Profile” file, select Open With | Notepad.
4. Set the following values:
GstRender.FullScreenEnabled 0
GstRender.FullscreenScreen 1
5. Click File | Save and then exit.
6. Right click the file, select Properties.
7. Under General tab, check-up the “Read Only” checkbox and click OK.


Change Undefined Monitor Number

1. Open the game first.
2. Click Options | Video.
3. Set “Undefined Monitor Number” to 1.


Change Screen Resolution

1. Click Start | Control Panel.
2. Click Appearance and Personalization | Display.
3. Click “Adjust resolution” link on the left panel.
4. Set the Resolution to 2760*1600.
5. Click Apply | OK.
