Smile Re: Installing XP over Vista Home Premium

Hi, I recently bought a DELL INSPIRON 1720 LAPTOP with vista home premimum operating system. I just don't like vista at all and I bought a xp with sp2. I want to install xp in the desktop. I inserted the disk and changed under boot menu to boot from cdrom, but after I pressed F8 to agree the terms, it sis saying that "power on ur harddisk ,right now it is powered off" and when i press ok button on the screen then the setup was exited ,Could you please tell me how come? And i think problably i have to format vista first, then install xp. But i really dont know how to format vista.

Re: Installing XP over Vista Home Premium

it seems like XP is not detecting your hard drives.

Reboot your system and hit F2 as soon as you see the Dell startup screen.

n the System Setup screen, do these steps.

Select Drives:
Make sure your Diskette Drive (3.5 floppy) is set properly (Usually set to Internal)
Make sure that "Drive 0: SATA-0" drive is set to "ON"

next Go to "SATA Operation":

Your system probably came set to "RAID Autodetect / AHCI"

CHANGE THE SATA OPERATION SETTING TO "COMBINATION"

reboot and boot from XP CD, this time you should be able to successfully install XP.

Once you finish installing XP, change the setting back to "RAID Autodetect / AHCI"

Re: Installing XP over Vista Home Premium

hmm...then its vista itself...
i mean...what u expect from microsoft?since they want money all the time they prolly block u from a possible piracy OS...since vista is protected against piracy and XP isnt it dont suprise me if its vista itself
