Help in buying a new Graphics Card

I am going to buy a GFX card tomorrow. So tell me should I buy a 7900GS and overclock it or get myself 7950GT. I don't want ATI so pls don't suggest one. The price difference between 7900gs (256MB) and 7950GT (256MB) is around 4k.
Just suggest me which is better in terms of price to performance ratio and does 7950GT has huge margin of performance over 7900GS. I am in mood to buy any one of these cards but just don't want to shell out 4K extra for say 10% gain in performance. But if the difference is around 30-40% then I'll get myself 7950GT. So please suggest. Also I am not interested at getting a Series 8 card at this moment, maybe 1-2 years later.
Thanks.

How about 7900GTX If not much a price difference then go for it..

BUt for sure 7950GT is worth 4k extra than 7900GS

Well , if u intend to OC , then the 7900GS would be great , specially for its price .. the XFX one's hit 650/1600 easily .. yes on the stock cooling .. the extra 4pp , 1 vp on the 7950GT doesn't help much ... infact that oc'ed 7900GS will fetch u around 10k's easily in 3DMark05 ... BTW , it'd be very help to suggest a card if u'd mention ur config. ...

Also , why didn't u consider the 7900GT ?? it sits right between the 7900GS and the 7950GT ... and are insane oc'ers .. the newer cards are of newer revisions , so u'r most probable to avoid any problems ...

The price difference between 7950GT (256MB) and 7900GT (256MB) is around Rs.500/- and also heard that 7950GT was release to replace 7900GT in time. So opted for it. The 512MB 7950GT is out of my budget.
As for my config:
AMD64 X2 3800+ @ 2.4GHz
512MB*2 DDR @ 400MHz
A8N-E Revision 2.0 BIOS 1008

This are the price qouted by the vendor for LEADTEK gfc card:
7900GS 256MB -> 12k + vat
7900GT 256MB -> 16k + vat
7950GT 256MB -> 15.5k + vat
7950GT 512MB -> 19k + vat

I am in favor of LEADTEK as I am using its 6600GT right now........very satisfied with its performance and also the LEADTEK has active cooling on its 7950GT.

I haven't actually bought the card till now, so PRATIM any advice is welcome.

Hmmm , wonder how well Leadtek oc's .. the prices are hell lot less than the XFX one's .. around 2.5k's infact ... anyway .. 7950GT is an awesome buy .. no matter what company it belongs to .

Also , about the cooling ,, i find the XFX one very efficient and best of all "Silent" .. i wonder how i'll ever go back to active cooling ..

Also , the for ~20k's , i'd still say go for the 7900GT if u have no probs. with oc'ing ... the newer 7900GT's are of a newer revisions , and easily surpass the 7950GT's in terms of oc' capability ... infact i did see people hittin 650/1600 on stock cooling ( which is equal to a 7900GTX) ..

Also , GeCube radeon cards are very much available currently ... i'd say if u can manage another 2-3k's , definitely go for the X1900XT ... u'll be amazed by the IQ improvement .. also , u might be interested in a X1950 Pro .. it infact does better than the 7950GT , and costs about the same ..

Also , it seems strange for Leadtek to make 256 MB variants of the 7950GT .. coz nvidia didn't make one as for a reference ..

BTW is this the card : http://www.leadtek.com/3d_graphic/wi...0gt_tdh_1.html ??

And the pricing surely seems awkward ...

Also , if u play at any res. below 1280*960 , u'll suffice with a 256 MB card ...

You've got some real deals there .... XFX 7950GT passive cooled goes for 24000/- in Kolkata ....
With the price you are getting you should definitey go for the 7950GT .... great card with none of the early 79series issues .... the 7900GT is a great card too , but even though the later versions of this card is supposedly fixed of the artifacting issue , i wouldn't recommend it , because in India there is a good chance of you receiving one out of the old stock .....

The 7950GT is the best bargain you are getting , go for it ..

Ya, that's the card.
But after much thought........was thinking of buying the 7900GS and o'clock it to perform in par with 7900GT. Read review that the leadtek could be o'ced to 600/1600 easily on stock cooling. And buy myself 1GB DDR RAM with rest of the money. What do ya say?

The GeCube X1950 PRO was qouted @ 16.9k + vat.
The 7900GTX is going for around 26k + vat (just wanted to inform, since it is way out of my budget).

Thanks you very much for helping in my buying decision. I have some more time to decide (before I finally buy it tomorrow).

I would still recommend to get 7950GT...
Its not the everyday you get a chance to change graphics card...
So why take a lower version when you got a budget of higher....
Taking 7900GS and then Ocing it to 7900GT just dont make any sense to me....
That will further make load on PSU...instead go for 7950GT which just take 6 watt more compared to 7900GS and 1 watt more compared to 7900GT...

Ram can be installed anytime....

So think on it...
7950GT is the best deal their
