Wink HDD not recognized

I have a 500 Gb Iomega USB HDD....(External)

I formatted it using Partition Magic, everything is fine (this was done under Vista)....

Now I regularly use the HDD to watch movies and stuff by connecting it to my Laptop (Vista)....

2 days ago I connected the HDD back to the XP PC, and one of the two partitions (E:\ and F:\) namely E:\ was not getting recognised, whereas F:\ was recognised ok....

I changed and used another USB port, but no difference....

I read around on some forums etc ; they had really weird answers (delete / edit registry keys, do this do that)....

The biggest difference is that most guys had problems with their HDDs (complete HDD including all partitions) not being recognised, I have a much more complex problem....

Any help will be appreciated....

Also forgot to add that this error is only related to the XP, in Vista both partitions (and hence the HDD) is recognised fine no errors....

Some problem with XP I guess....

Re: HDD not recognized

Open disk management in XP, and see if the other partition is detected.

No it isn't.... It asked me for a format, which is plain ridiculous because as I can clearly see in Vista, that partition isn't damaged etc....

Just so u know, there is no such word as reputate....

That is just wrong English....

Re: HDD not recognized

hmm -- no chkdsk did not find any problems, so /f won't fix anything. btw -- did you use any Bitlocker encryption on that partition ? Also since Vista is not installed in your H partition, it seems strange that still some programs had open handles to that partition.

@AYAN : Make sure from BIOS RAID is not enabled.

Why would I want to install an OS on an external HDD unless I use it to boot (i.e. primary).... That doesn't make sense....

Also WTF is that open handles crap ??? I get that all the time on other volumes too (all are extended, still)
