Computer boots and automatically enters bios settings
Hello
Iam having a little confusing problem. My computer worked fine yesterday but today when my girlfriend powered it up it just keeps opening the BIOS settings screen. When i choose to "Save and exit" or "Exit without saving" the computer reboots and opens the bios settings again... I cant se any problems with the components and i have tried with clearing the cmos with no success. I cant boot with a windows disc either as the computer runs the test for components then enters bios settings. I have built the computer myself, but it has been working for ~2 years. I dont really know how i should proceed with my troubleshooting hopefully someone here can suggest something to try fixing it. Here is my specifications. Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R (rev 2.1) iP35 Intel Core 2 QUAD Q6600 2.4Ghz 4GB OCZ Titanium DDR2 PC2-6400 800Mhz XFX GeForce 7900GT 2 Maxtor SATA-discs DVD-reader DVD-burner Antec NeoPower 500W In need of advice /Richard |

Re: Computer boots and enters bios settings
Can you make sure your BIOS trigger key ( F1 / F5 / Del) in your keybaord is not damaged or stuck?
To make sure just remove the Keyboard and reboot. See if it's entering the BIOS. |

You can fix the above hal.dll error using the Windows XP install disk. Check this article. Other possible reasons listed here. |

Re: Computer boots and automatically enters bios settings
Well then i have another problem ;D
I only got one keyboard and iam using it in this computer and it seems to work as i can write this ![]() To restore hal.dll i need a keyboard but i cant boot the CD with a keyboard inserted :/ So my conclusion is to borrow a keyboard to try fixing the hal.dll then maybe my keyboard will work or can the keyboard port be damaged somehow? |

The two issues, BIOS & hal.dll, may not be related. So even after fixing the hal.dll issue with a borrowed keyboard you'll need to remove your keyboard for booting up. Anyway once you try with another keyboard, we can confirm if it's a keyboard issue or something to do with your mainboard.

Re: Computer boots and automatically enters bios settings
You might check the PS/2 port, if you can get a usb keyboard, try it and see if the system boots up.

Re: Computer boots and automatically enters bios settings
I fixed another keyboard now and it worked to boot with, but replacing the hal.dll didnt work. I also tried the bootcfg /rebuild but it couldnt complete because there was something wrong (dont remember now).
So iam continuing with Repair windows but when you boot from the windows xp disc and follows the steps on Repair Windows XP - How to Perform a Repair Installation of Windows XP - Part 1 of 2 i dont get the option to select which Windows installation i want to Repair as in step 6 of the guide... How can i proceed getting "Repair tool" to find my windows installation? |

Re: Computer boots and automatically enters bios settings
if you followed the steps correctly, it means windows was not able to detect any installed operating system.
Try the inplace upgrade : How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP |
